Young Animators in the Making

Writer's picture: IES Schools South AfricaIES Schools South Africa

Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back.

As part of the ICT curriculum, Year 6 students at the Blouberg International School campus were stretched and challenged to create their own stop motion animation projects. This task engages the young learners and empowers them, opening up a world of innovation and imagination.

The students developed and directed their own storyboards, created the narrative and used their own stop motion animation for the production. Students were in complete control of the whole process, including designing the set, direction and filming, allowing their creativity to run wild!
